The Don Glass Bottle Works of Mexbro' was built in 1857 by Joseph Baron, whose father along with Ben Rylands, John and James Tillotson and Joseph Wilkinson started the Swinton Glassworks in 1852. In 1876 Mr.Baron went bankrupt and sold the busines to James Montague, who in turn sold out to Hartley Baron, William Roebuck and Joseph and Charles Bullock. In 1878 P.Waddington, a partner became Manager and ran the firm untill its closure in 1920.
